Two Piece Swimsuit

A two piece swimsuit is generally referred to as a bikini, although there are a few two piece swimwear styles that do not directly fall under the category of bikini. Two piece swimsuits are generally recognized as having to separate pieces to them, as the name indicated, one that covers the female breast and the other one that covers the groin area, including the buttocks.

Most 2 piece swimming suits are designed to look a lot like women’s underwear through shape and form. Two piece swimsuits can therefore also come as revealing thongs or g-string swimsuits or the more modest looking briefs for the bottom part. Sexier more revealing two piece bathing suits are more common in Europe and some Asian countries while in the United States, two piece swim wear is a common sight, they are usually of a more modest to normal style.

Modest two piece bathing suits most often have very low cut leg openings or are just like briefs. Also the top covers as much areas as possible. Some modest versions are also available as tankinis. Tankinis are two piece bathing suits that have a top resembling a tank top, as the name gives away. Tankinis come in sexy and modest version and almost anything in between. Most maternity swimwear are two piece bathing suits, for the sheer comfort of the pregnant woman and easier aspect of getting dressed with two pieces rather than one piece.

In competitive swimming and other water sports athletic two-piece suits are not uncommon, although for practicality one-piece bathing suits are usually preferred. Some runners use running suits that look and feel just like athletic two piece bathing suits.

Two-piece bathing suits come in a great variety of colors. White 2 piece swimsuits and yellow 2 piece swimsuits are usually less common because of transparency issues. The majority of bathing suits and swimwear have a dark colored base material such as black, blue or green.

Some of the more exclusive department stores carry designer two-piece swimsuits such as Kenneth Cole two piece swimwear or Calvin Klein two piece swimwear. Most local department stores will carry ladies two piece swimwear as well as children and men swimwear in their selection, while sports stores have those available throughout the year. If you can wait or you do not need to replace your bathing suit right away, cheap two piece swimsuits can usually be found on end of season clearances or special holiday sales.
