Bikini Swimsuit

One of the great breakthroughs in swimwear history was the step from one-piece bathing suit to two-piece bathing suits. The invention of the bikini swimsuit was just after World War II. It then was named after the bikini atoll as one way to protest against the nuclear tests done there.

Bikini swimsuits come in a variety of styles for tops and pants. The original bikini bathing suit was very modest. The swimsuit bikini pants reached just about the navel and had an almost brief cut style pants. The tops covered most of the breast and therefore only a narrow strip of skin was showing in between the two pieces.

In swimwear the bikini is just as often or even more often bought nowadays as the one-piece. The Bikini swim suit slowly evolved into several different styles with some of them revealing a whole lot more skin than the original inventor probably ever thought. G-string bikini swimwear had only a small string in the back that runs between the buttocks and connects the usually small triangular front piece with a band around the waist to the back. An even more daring version of bikini bathing suits is micro bikini swimwear or also called microkinis. A microkini can come in the same styles as a regular bikini, but it is very tiny and skimpy.

Bikini swimwear also comes in lots of nice patterns and beautiful colors. Although it is just kike with one-piece suits not recommended using white bikini swimwear if you were not looking for a transparent look.

Bikini swimwear tops also come in a great variety of styles, some of them being bandeau style bikini tops, full coverage tops, enhancer bra and other bra style tops, halter tops, sheer tops, triangular tops and tankini tops.

Tankinis are one of the newest two-piece bathing suits versions and have usually a tank style top for the top and bikini swim wear bottoms. With the trend towards selling more and more plus size clothing, swimwear manufacturers also offer now plus size swimwear including plus size bikini swimsuits. Most plus size bikini swimwear has built in support for the bigger size breasts, some in form of under wire bras, others through wider straps.

Bikinis can be found at most local retailers and department stores as well as online. Looking for a cheap or discount bikini? Try one of the bikini bathing suits for sale or the end of season clearance if you can wait till next year to wear your new find.
