Swimming sports and sun tanning on the beach are such a popular leisure time activity that lots of sports companies have whole sections dedicated for swimwear and some companies are having their main business in swimwear.

There are specialized swimwear manufacturers that only sell and develop swimwear for any and all occasions.

Specialized manufacturers such as Nautica, O’Neill, Billabong, Speedo, Dolfin, Aquaclara, Island Company, Tyr Sports Inc., Coco Reef, Arena, Anne Cole, Anita Swimwear, Pompei Beach, Mirla Sabina Swimwear, Onda de Mar, Vitamin A and several others sell almost exclusively swimwear and swim accessories. Some of these companies also manufacturer matching shirts, pants and towels to be able to sell a matching set of accessories to their customers and be able to market more products.

Gotto also offers swimwear and being usually a lingerie manufacturer, their designs are more oriented on their main product and therefore the swimsuits produced by Gotto are more sexy and open. Some of the bathing suits are designed by high end designers like Calvin Klein or Hugo boss and usually not affordable for the general public.

Bigger sports companies such as Nike and Reebok also have big sections with swimwear and besides Speedo they are the main suppliers and producers of competitive swimsuits. Whole departments for swimwear research and development are working at those companies to improve the materials and design of racing suits and other competitive swimsuits.

Besides the above mentioned manufacturers an brands there are a whole flood of no name companies producing cheaper swimwear.

Should you be out looking for a swimsuit it is important to figure out what exactly you are going to use this swim suit for. For a casual sun tanning afternoon or the two times a year pool/beach visit, any nice looking cheap bathing suit will do. And don’t get me wrong. Just because they are chap does not mean that they are not looking good. In contrast, some look like expensive designer swimsuits. The drawback of those cheaper swimsuits often is the quality of material used. They do generally not hold up well for competitive swimming, lots of swimming/ beach trips. The material will fray and disintegrate through the aggressive sun radiation as well exposure to chlorine or other chemicals in the water.

Also to consider is the fit of the garment and support of certain body parts. Lots of swimsuits are not qualified for competitive swimming; they were designed with the sunbather in mind.

For good quality swimsuits and competitive swimsuits it is best to choose one of the major name brands and also spend a decent amount of money to get a decent to high quality bathing suit.
