G-String

Men’s swimwear has come a long way and are a fashion statement just as much as women’s swimwear. Several styles of male swimsuits are on the market and one of them is the men’s G-string bathing suit, often also called Gee string. Men’s G-string swimwear is a special type of thong that has apiece of cloth in the front to cover the genitals and only a small string like part leading up to the hip on the back of the body by the buttocks and this string is attached to a band or string around the hips. This type of swimwear also exists as underwear and can actually be worn by women or men. Lots of times G-string and thong are used interchangeably but this is not completely appropriate. The G-string usually has less material between the buttocks and legs than a thong; it is just a string as the name indicates while a thong might have a small band, or some fabric piece slightly wider than a string.

The G-string actually is way older than almost any other piece of clothing. Of course it didn’t start as G-string swimwear for men but rather as an early form of clothing in hot climates such as Africa. The covering of the male genitalia was one of the foremost thoughts by using G-strings for centuries. Nowadays G-strings and Thongs are more often worn by females and in general are associated with a sexier hot look. In the 1970s women and men’s G string bathing suits became popular in Brazil, where the buttocks are a emphasized special body part.

While in the US even certain laws prohibit to wear men G string swimsuits, in European countries Mens G string swimsuits can be seen sometimes at beaches, but usually are even there rare or more likely worn by females. In Northern America G string for men swimwear is not something you will find at any department store, rather in specialized catalogs or online. Mostly worn for pictures for certain magazines and calendars adorning private rooms and walls.

Most males in our society would probably refuse to ever wear a male G-string bathing suit other than being involved in modeling or other similar businesses. Cultures like Japan do have certain styles of beachwear that might include g-strings or similar revealing one or two pieces. In the African bush some tribal people wear still g-strings, but most have been reached by western cultures and switched over to shorts or similar civilized daily wear.
